what to do during and after an
interruption, and tips for

Water supply interruptions
The water supply, including hot water, may need
to be turned off for maintenance or repairs in the
building or the supply network.
In an emergency, such as a water leak, the
supply may be turned off at short notice.
An interruption may also affect the
laundry room.
Kretslopp och vatten produces and supplies
Gothenburg’s drinking water. It also maintains
the city’s water pipes and repairs leaks.
We usually receive information about planned
interruptions from Kretslopp och vatten or
Göteborg Energi. During emergency
interruptions, we try to share information
as soon as we can.

During an interruption
Before a planned interruption, fill clean bottles
or a jug with cold water for drinking and cooking.
Keep all taps turned off during the interruption.
The water supply may return earlier than
expected. Wait until the supply has returned
before using your washing machine or
dishwasher.
When the water
supply returns
After an interruption, the water may be
discoloured or contain air. Air bubbles
can make the water look greyish-white,
but they disappear if you leave the
water to stand for a short while.
Run the cold tap until the water is
cold and clear before drinking it or
using it for cooking. Wait until the
water is clear before using your
washing machine or dishwasher,
as discoloured water can affect
both your laundry and the
appliances.
If the discolouration remains
after running the tap for about
15 minutes, report the problem
to us. Always follow any specific
instructions issued during the
interruption.
Hot water
If you have no heating or hot water,
there may be an interruption to the
district heating supply.

Saving water
Small habits can make a
big difference:
- Turn off the tap while
brushing your teeth. - Take shorter showers
and turn off the water
while soaping up. - Report dripping taps
and toilets that keep
running.
