How do I apply for an apartment?
Our housing queue
We are glad that you want to apply for one of our apartments! Register in our housing queue to start collecting points today! You can register for our housing queue from the year you turn 17 and can bring a maximum amount of 365 points. After you have reached the maximum amount you need to be a member of a student union in Gothenburg to receive more points.
We own and maintain 2382 student apartments that are all within walking distance from Chalmers Campus Johanneberg or Campus Lindholmen. Available apartments are published Tuesday to Wednesday. If you find an apartment that you like, register your interest. Those with the highest amount of queue points, normally 5 people, will receive a viewing offer of the apartment. The apartment will be offered to the person with the highest amount of queuing points that are still interested after the viewing.
Please note that the demand for student apartments in Gothenburg is high, therefore it may take a while before you are offered your first tenancy contract.
Rules for our housing queue
Once you have registered, you will receive a queue point for every day you stand in our housing queue. If you are a member of the Chalmers student union you will receive 2 points per day, otherwise, you will receive 1 point per day. If your membership expires before you make a new payment for your membership, you will unfortunately not receive any queue points for the days you are not a member of your student union. However, you will keep the points you already collected. Please note that it is not possible to collect housing queue points for an earlier term or period prior to you becoming a member of your student union.
Please make sure to have the same personal number in our system and at the Student union to collect points in our housing queue. We are not responsible if your personal number is not updated.
You have the opportunity to get preparatory queue points. You can register in our housing queue from the calendar year that you turn 17 years old and can receive a maximum of 365 points. You can only get preparatory points before you are a member of a student union and before you have a contract with us.
Please keep in mind that you need to go in once within six months and update your registration, otherwise you will lose your queue points. When you sign a tenancy contract, your queue points will be set to zero. Please log in to ‘My Pages’ to start collecting points again!
Before you apply
When signing your tenancy contract, you need to be able to show that you are a student by showing your application or registration of studies the following semester. You also need to show your student union membership.
You are starting studies in January
If you are starting studies in January you can apply for apartments with move-in dates starting in December. (The acceptance letter normally is sent out beginning of December) If you apply before you get the acceptance letter, you have to show us that you have applied if you are offered an apartment. If you do not get accepted you need to cancel the contract.
You are starting studies in the Fall (August/September)
If you are starting studies in August/September you can apply for apartments with move-in dates starting in June. (The acceptance letter normally is sent out in July). If you apply before you get the acceptance letter you need to show us that you have applied if you are offered an apartment. If you do not get accepted you need to cancel the contract.
When you apply for an apartment
When you apply for an apartment, please remember the following:
- You can express interest in a maximum of five apartments at the same time. You will be offered at the most between 1 and 3 simultaneous viewings. (The system sorts them out regardless of maximum queue points).
- You can only receive one contract offer, a week.
- You can reject offers a maximum of five times during six months. The sixth time you reject an offer you are not entitled to apply for an apartment for three months. You will, however, continue to accumulate queue points.
- Note that if you do not reply to a viewing offer on time or sign a contract offer on time, this also counts as a rejection.
Is there another way to get one of our apartments?
Short term contracts
Occasionally we have available apartments with short-term contracts. These contracts are often for a couple of months with no option to extend. These apartments are published in the same place as the regular apartments, with the headline “Short-term contract”.
Apartment exchange
After you have held a tenancy contract for at least 12 months you can exchange apartments with another tenant. Unfortunately, we cannot help you with finding another tenant to exchange apartments with, you will have to find a tenant yourself. The tenant with whom you exchange apartments is also subject to the rule relating to a minimum tenancy period of 12 months. This does not apply for those of you with Masters, Research, or short-term contracts. Masters, Research, or short-term contracts cannot be exchanged.
