About Chalmers Student Housing

A Legacy of Student Living Since 1961

Founded on June 19, 1961, on the initiative of the Chalmers Student Union and in collaboration with the City of Gothenburg, the Chalmers Student Housing Foundation has been dedicated to providing high-quality student accommodation.
Our journey began with the construction of 650 student apartments at Emilsborg on Gibraltargatan, completed in the fall of 1963. Since then, we have continued to expand and develop modern student housing to meet growing demands.

Key Milestones

1995-96Gibraltargatan 80 (142 apartments) + Nära Hem pub & swimming facility
1998Sångsvanen (140 apartments), a renovated historic landshövdingehus
2002Lindholmen (Skateberget) (16 apartments)
1997-2004 – Major apartment renovations, adding compact kitchens and better ventilation

Expansion & Growth

2004Rännan (63 apartments) – First student housing on Chalmers campus
2004Blåelden (84 apartments) – Includes group housing for disabled residents
2006Gibraltargatan 78 (203 apartments)
2006Chabo (479 apartments) – First permanent student housing on Campus Johanneberg
2011-2012Gibraltargatan 84-92 renovation + 100 new apartments

2015Kv. Nålskäran (118 apartments) – Sweden’s first student housing certified Miljöbyggnad Guld
2019Uddjaur – Environmentally certified student housing
2019Gibraltar Guesthouse (100 apartments) – Sustainable housing for international students & researchers
2021Emilsbro (42 apartments) – Expanding student housing at Emilsborg

2022Holterman Hostel (66 rooms) – Temporary student housing (max. 3 months)
