Our largest project in 60 years is taking off
Chalmers Studentbostäder is taking a major step forward in meeting the growing demand for modern student housing in Gothenburg. The building permit application has now been
submitted for Nya Holtermanska – our most extensive development since the Emilsborg student residence was completed in 1963.
On the site where the Holtermanska Hospital once stood, just 50 metres from the Chalmers campus, three new residential buildings are planned. Together they will provide homes for nearly 500 students in direct connection
to the university. The existing buildings on the site, which today house offices and our student hostel, will remain an active part of our operations and complement what we now call Nya Holtermanska.
Construction is planned to begin in early 2026, with phased move-ins during 2028. The aim is for the entire project to be completed in time
for two important anniversaries:
– The 125th anniversary of the Chalmers Student Union – The 200th anniversary of Chalmers University of Technology in 2029.
New building regulations enable more student housing
The project will be one of the first in Sweden to be developed under the new building regulations introduced by Boverket, as well as the new student housing exemptions that came into force on July 1. These updated rules make it possible to create more homes within the same footprint – a crucial change for meeting
the significant demand for accommodation among students and researchers in Gothenburg.
